HOW TO PRETEND TO BE COMPUTER EXPERT IN AN INTERVIEW

We are in the world of technology, where computers has become the core tool in almost all offices in the world. You might have undertaken a university or college course which is not related to computers, I.e. business or any other courses and you might lack even a basic knowledge of computer.  How do you work in an office where the office work mostly rely on digital working environment through computers? Although most of the office work are related to word processors and so, you must be familiar with computers to avoid computer functionalities look alien to you during your employment interview.

Well, back in University when I was a bachelor’s degree student focused in computer science, I decided to take some role as a volunteer in an ICT office. Guess what happened… Most of our lecturers mostly from other departments used to seek for my services regarding their computers whenever they run into a problem or any other guidance. But one question which I used to ask myself was that, these are PhD or masters holders. How did they reach that level of education without familiarizing themselves with computers because whichever course you might have taken, there must be researches and many other staffs you must have done through computers. That itself should assure you of some basic computer knowledge.

Many employers out there include computer related interview questions for new employees. But the funny thing I have personally witnessed is that many employees might have passed all other interviews questions but they are still newbies in computer world. So how do you make sure lacking basic computer knowledge won’t be a barrier in your employment anymore? Let's dig in as discussed below.

1. Want to pretend to be an expert in front of your boss? Learn some small keyboard short cuts here and there. For example:-

To open windows explorer,  Instead of moving your cursor all the way to the task bar and clicking on windows explorer button, just give your mouse a break and press the following keyboard combination windows key + E.

Instead of searching for Settings to open computer settings, just press the following keyboard combination windows key + I

There you go, you look good with those small shortcuts in place. Remember there are so many keyboard shortcuts which you can learn easily.

2. Learn some key knowledge of computer such as the right way to switch on and off. Switching on is just through short pressing the power button but the problem arises where you are told to switch off the computer in an interview and you rush and long press the power button to shut down the computer or you switch off the wall socket to cut of power supply . Be sure you have failed that. The right way to switch off the computer is by clicking on windows logo in the task bar using your mouse and click on the shutdown button from the list given. You will see options to switch off, restart, hibernate, sleep etc. just click on switch off button and your computer will shut down without any living behind any error.

3. Take one month course of computer packages and familiarized yourself with word processors. Immediately after I did my kcse examination before I saw myself among computer expertise, I found many of my classmates taking those computer packages which cost around ksh. 4500. So I didn’t want to be left behind, I also requested the required amount of money from my mom and took the course. Although I didn’t give enough attention to it, I learnt some basic knowledge of word processor regarding Microsoft office. Remember I just did it because other were doing so I gained very little knowledge about word processor. Coming to university is when I secured the course of my dream which is computer science. I was so passionate about my university course so that is when the real journey of my computer knowledge started to extent that I was I couching my own lecturers regarding both computer software and hardware. So give a bit of attention and sacrifice some two hours a day to learn this important short course which is essential for any person holding any office.

HOW TO PROLONG THE LIFESPAN OF YOUR COMPUTER

Do you own a personal computer or working with computers? Most probably you are finding a way to maintain those important machines in our life. This article is for you, pay attention so that you get much benefit out of this article.

Most of the organizations have IT support service where employees from other fields are supported with their computers by IT staffs which led to smooth running of the organization. In case of absence of IT support service as witnessed in some small organizations, computers are used to death and disposed approximately earlier than those computer with good maintenance.

Therefore, how do we maintain computer? Here we have broke down 5 important practices which when practiced can improve the functionality of your computer and even prolong its lifespan.

1. Keep your computer up to date.

Why is it recommended to keep your computer up to date? Simply software companies provide updates to their software’s periodically. There are several updates available depending on the software’s. So some are bug fixes, efficiency, addition of some more features such as security and many more. Black hat hackers are busy updating their viruses to be in a position harm or steal your information. Therefore you have to keep in touch with the updates at least once a month for your system so that your system is secured more in line with hacker activities.

2. Don’t over use your computer

Give it some break to cool it down after long use. Don’t install heavy program which is beyond its strength instead if you must use that program, go for high quality computers with good processing power and memory capacity. And avoid some gaming software’s which requires a lot of memory resources to run. If you have realized, while playing heavy games in your PC, the computer over heat because of processing and memory resource it uses which will be killing your computer slowly.

3. Install good antivirus

I know of many people around who don’t like to spend money buying antivirus software’s especially University students. But if you are windows 10 user, you may have some relief depending on how many users have access to your computer other than you as it comes with windows defender which plays vital role protecting your computer as long as you keep it up to date. But in case of any other user having access to the same PC, it is recommended to purchase a good anti-virus software because many user means visiting many sites which might end up harming your computer.

4. Clean up unnecessary files and programs

Because you may be a user but not IT expert, your role is to use the computer until it crushes at one point and you end up rushing to the repair workshops. Don’t let your computer crush which might be costly. Instead play some role to keep your computer healthy. As we have said earlier, you are a user and your role is to work with computer but not maintenance. But small tasks such as uninstalling unnecessary programs and clearing junk files is everyone’s skill. So do your part to keep your computer efficient.

5. Dust your computer with air compressor

Dust is the biggest enemy to your computers motherboard. In the case of desk tops. Some users hide their CPU down below the table to save working space on the table. But you are just taking computer closer to dust. Leave your CPU on the table not below the table and clean up the inner components of your computer at least once a month using. Furthermore don’t concentrate blowing time on specific point on the motherboard. Blow it generally and once all the dust are cleaned up, stop blowing further and assemble your computer back. In case of inconvenience, seek hardware expert’s advice.

There you go. You have long life computer with all the aforementioned practice fully practiced.
